Brondby will have to do without fans in the upper tier of Sydsiden for the first two home games of the season against Viborg and Sønderjyske. This has just been decided by the Disciplinary Committee of the Danish Football Association with a ruling, where the club is being punished for the extensive use of pyrotechnics in connection with the match against FC Copenhagen on May 21. Brondby had implemented extensive security measures for the match to prevent the use of pyrotechnics. Among other things, significantly more controllers were called in than usual, and the stands were searched by a pyro dog before the match started. Brondby views the extensive use of pyrotechnics that took place in the match against FC Copenhagen with great seriousness. During the match, fans in the lower tier of Sydsiden were exposed to both danger and injuries. The violent assault on the woman who was sitting in a wheelchair was later reported to the police by Brondby IF. Since then, the perpetrator has been charged and Brondby has issued a lifetime ban. Brondby has received a number of penalties during the season, where the sanction has been the closure of the stands. After unrest in an away match against OB in October, the entire Sydsiden was closed in the home match against FC Nordsjælland in early November. The consequence of the penalty is now that Sydsiden upper tier will be empty on August 2 against Viborg and again on August 17, when Sønderjyske is the opponent at Brøndby Stadion. Brondby has received a fine of 100,000 kr. in addition to the closure of Sydsiden upper tier. The Disciplinary Committee of the Danish Football Association has, when determining the sanction, particularly emphasized that a significant number of pyrotechnic articles were fired from Brøndby IF's stands before the match started. Brondby must hope that the fans can keep to the rules in future matches, so the club does not receive further penalties.
